Hey Richard,
Are you sure it was the FEC that granted those exemptions for the other parties? In that paragraph in question, I am talking specifically about what the FEC has granted... not what the courts have granted.

The politico story is very interesting and useful and I am glad it was sent to the election law list.
However, the story says the Socialist Workers Party is the only party that ever got an exemption, yet actually four parties have got such an exemption. The Tea Party letter itself mentions the Communist Party, and the other two are Socialist Action and the Freedom Socialist Party. All the parties mentioned in this e-mail won in federal court.
