[EL] Free speech just got more expensive

Is it not in the quest of redress that the need for association and speech
are at their greatest? The war in Vietnam was a grievance which many sought
to redress. Segregation and the draft were grievances as was the prohibition
on a women's right to reproductive choice and the ban on same sex marriage.
In each of these the grievance is addressed through the associative action
of many who joined in individual and collective speech and press
(publication) directed at those who needed to be persuaded.

Generally, redress is not the result of self-help but provided by someone in
a position to do so, who must usually be persuaded to do so. That takes
speech, but may also take press if the grantor of redress is not present
when the speech is created.

Of course money also has an undue influence in courts, which is arguably a
worse problem than in elections. "It is better to be guilty and rich than to
be innocent and poor."

That's why we were given a jury system by our ancestors. It wasn't because
judges or prosecutors could be trusted.

What about redress? Is there any greater need for speech or press than to
accomplish redress?
