[EL] Tea Party Leadership Fund will not be alone

Apparently the California AG (Harris) wants the unredacted form 990 that a (c)(3) has to file with the IRS. I suppose the state taxing authority (the Franchise Tax Board) could and perhaps does ask for the same information. I suppose the IRS and FTB must keep the information confidential, but isn't a state AG ordinarily entitled to make sure charities are operating properly? Perhaps that's only true for charities incorporated in that state, or perhaps Harris intends to use the information in impermissible ways, or perhaps CCP is particularly vulnerable (as in Socialist Workers).

And now, apparently, Ron Paul and TPLF will not be alone. I like this trend....

The Center for Competitive Politics has sued California to protect its donor list -- donations for c3 activities; far beyond elections.

It seems Ron Paul's group will be the next to challenge compelled disclosure for right-leaning Tea Party organizations. Dan Backer's client, TPLF, will not be alone.

Whether the article mentions it or not, the question of whether Ron Paul's Campaign for Liberty is entitled to a disclosure exemption under the Socialist Workers line of cases will be on the table -- public disclosure or in-camera disclosure, no matter; FEC or IRS disclosure, no matter.

I, of course, have been beating the drum for this to happen since 2011. http://www.nationalreview.com/bench-memos/266623/when-capitalists-need-socialist-workers-stephen-m-hoersting

I'd tell you I am glad to see it is happening now -- and I am. But I often wonder why it takes the Right so long to know what it is up against; so long to swing into action. You'd never see this kind of hesitancy on the Left. Never.
