If you’re attending the AALS Annual Meeting, we hope that you’ll join us
for the Legislation and Law of the Political Process Section’s Program, *The
Right to Vote: From Reynolds v. Sims to Shelby County v. Holder and Beyond*.
It will take place *tomorrow*, *Friday, January 3, 2013, from 1:30 to
3:00 P.M. *at the New York Hilton Midtown. The panelists and their topics
are:

   -

Franita Tolson, Congressional Authority to Protect the Right to Vote
after *Shelby County *and *Arizona Inter Tribal*
   -

Derek Muller, The Play in the Joints of the Election Clauses
   -

Mike Dimino, Voter ID, Gerrymandering, and the Over-Enforcement of
   Voting Rights

Amendment Challenge to Voter Participation Restrictions

Papers from the program will be published in *Election Law Journal*.
Unfortunately, Rick Pildes has had to withdraw from the panel.

The section’s business meeting will take place immediately after the
program. Here’s the agenda for that meeting:

   1.

Possible creation of a new Election Law section, and the proposed
division of subjects among the sections.
   2.

Proposed amendment to section by-laws that would make only the
immediate past chair, rather than all past chairs, members of the section’s
   executive committee.
   3.

Election of the section’s executive committee for 2014-15.
   4.

Program for the 2015 annual meeting.

The proposed creation of a new Election Law section will also be the
subject of a separate meeting at the AALS, which will take place *Saturday,
January 4, at 8:30 A.M.* The complete schedule for the AALS Annual Meeting
