Think Progress
<http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2014/06/09/3445559/arkansas-voter-id-absentee/>:
"Last April, Arkansas' Republican-controlled state legislature overrode
Gov. Mike Beebe's (D) veto
<http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/04/02/1808281/arkansas-lawmakers-pass-strict-voter-id-law-overriding-governors-veto/>
to enact a strict photo ID law
<http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/assembly/2013/2013R/Acts/Act595.pdf> for
all voters. But while Arkansas is now one of several states
<http://www.ncsl.org/research/elections-and-campaigns/voter-id.aspx>
which suppress voting by requiring valid photo identification to vote at
the polls, a unique and poorly written provision in the bill caused
hundreds of absentee voters to also have their votes rejected in last
month's primary."

    Repealing the "Voter Rights Act?" <http://electionlawblog.org/?p=62187>

Rick Hasen <http://electionlawblog.org/?author=3>

An early draft
<https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/1182339-temporary-platform-committee-report.html>
of the Texas GOP platform called for repealing the entire Voting Rights
Act (misnamed the Voter Rights Act). Anyone know if this got passed?

The platform got attention for other reasons
<http://www.thewire.com/politics/2014/06/the-texas-gop-advances-its-cure-the-gays-platform/372333/>.

UPDATE: So apparently this has been the Texas GOP's position for a while
