Except that the article misstates the reason Liu was denied matching funds.
It was because of straw donors in the 2013 campaign, not "past
fundraising," although being a repeat offender did carry some weight. Straw
donors will get you penalized in any system.
I also liked the article's faux-lamentation that we might never know what
kind of mayor "Mark Green, Freddy Ferrar [sic]" or others would have been
because of the public financing system. In fact, it was only because of
public financing that Green, Ferrer in 2005, or Bill Thompson in 2009 were
even remotely viable candidates against Bloomberg's $85-$100 million
campaigns.
