Thanks Steve - and thanks Rick, also, for the kind words!  To no one's surprise, I do have a couple thoughts I'd like to share about my move.

As is obvious to anyone who knows me well, I have had a decades-long run of incredibly good luck in terms of jobs and employers, a run which continues with my move to my new firm today.  I’m really thrilled about the opportunity to work with Joe and Neil again, and to join the rest of the team at Sandler Reiff.  The platform they’ve built scales perfectly to the combination of responsiveness, efficiency, and sophistication my clients expect, and at bottom the chance to partner up with them side-by-side at this point in my career was just too good to pass up.

That said, the nine years I spent at Caplin & Drysdale is and always will be one of the highlights of my career, and really my life.  The piece of this opportunity that involves parting company with Trevor and Kirk and Matt (and Doug and Marc and Diara and Betsy and Scott and Cono and about 100 others - not to mention Mort) is only a bad thing.  They are all absolutely first-rate lawyers and professionals, and even better people, so without a doubt: if I wasn’t so excited about the possibilities of my new firm, a team of wild horses couldn’t have dragged me out of my old firm.  

I keep telling people that the word “bittersweet” really just doesn’t do enough work to describe this for me; I’m elated about my new colleagues and new opportunities, but a little bit heartbroken to no longer share a shingle with my old colleagues.  I look forward to crossing paths with anyone & everyone from Caplin anytime, and I’m glad that the political & advocacy worlds are small enough that with any luck that will happen often.
