[EL] voter id

It’s odd that the authors look to statistics about concealed carry permits in Indiana to support their thesis that it’s harder for African-Americans to obtain IDs that qualify for voting. I don’t think Indiana’s concealed carry permits have a photo on them, so I’m not sure why such statistics matter to the ability to obtain identification in Indiana that meets Indiana’s photo ID requirement. (I say I don’t think Indiana’s concealed carry permits have a photo based on a search for images on them on the web. I don’t actually have one myself, which might be comforting to the folks who will be at the University of Chicago Legal Forum on Friday.)

Best,
Mike

This is one of the odder pieces I’ve ever read about the difficulty in obtaining voter IDs, concerning concealed carry permits: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/05/opinion/election-2014-ill-concealed-prejudice.html?partner=rss&emc=rss&_r=0
