A moment ago, I linked to the12 largest donors
<http://electionlawblog.org/?p=66720>of the last 12 years, and
yesterday, I noted that Chevron hadcontributed about $3 million
<http://electionlawblog.org/?p=66683>to entities spending in a
municipal race in Richmond, CA. But it's worth remembering that these
sorts of donors and these sorts of races are likely exceptional.
TheGonzales Inquirer reported yesterday
<http://www.gonzalesinquirer.com/news/article_ebb3c0c0-5094-11e4-8c82-5754aaa8c398.html>on
some municipal races that I suspect are more the the norm. (Spoiler
alert: $51.24 for yard sticks.)

"Campaigns Find Ad Space Finite, Even on the Web"

TheNY Times reports
<http://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/12/us/campaigns-find-ad-space-finite-even-on-the-web.html?_r=0>on
Internet political ad space. What they mean isn't that ad space is
finite ... but that the premium space is apparently finite. And
"premium" may mean something different from "highest traffic" -- I'm not
sure, for example, that there is much political advertisingamong the
cats <http://icanhas.cheezburger.com/>.

Aninteresting story
<http://www.thisweeknews.com/content/stories/olentangy/news/2014/10/07/ohio-supreme-court-decision-on-ballot-issue-leaves-chaos-in-wake.html>in
Ohio at the intersection of citizen initiatives, delegation of
legislative duties, election administration, and last-minute court
orders, in the municipal context. A charter amendment has been placed
on the ballot, off the ballot, off the ballot, and most recently on the
ballot, if officials can actually get it there ... as of now.

"Elections Official: Voter ID Decision Could Save Milwaukee $50,000?

Sounds likethe estimate here
<http://www.jrn.com/tmj4/news/Elections-official-Voter-ID-decision-could-save-Milwaukee-50000-278848761.html> just
covers the cost of a public outreach campaign to notify voters (some of
which may need to be redirected to tell voters what the law is as it
stands now).
But particularly since Wisconsin's law affected absentee ballots as
well, I wouldn't be surprised if implementation of the new ID law would
also have involved extra costs in processing absentee ballots and trying
to reach voters who did not submit copies of their ID with their
ballots. Or the costs of processing additional provisional ballots at
the polls.
