[EL] Justice Alito’s Disturbing Statement in Wisconsin Voter ID Case

Further undercutting the Alito dissent and his desire to give "deference" to the Court of Appeals is the fact that the equally-divided Wisconsin photo ID ruling was simply a matter of timing. One of the judges on the Court of Appeals panel, John Tinder, has already announced his retirement from the bench in early 2015. Moreover, were it not for the obvious foot-dragging by Wisconsin's GOP Senator, the late Judge Terry Evans' seat on the Court of Appeals would likely have been filled years ago by a judge who shares Judge Evans' views, as expressed in his Crawford dissent, about the thinly-veiled political purposes of these un-democratic ID laws.
