[EL] Al Jazeera America article on voter suppression

John,
I've been lectured for years about how important it is for the government to force disclosure so that people can judge whether they should listen to a message or not. I'm glad to see that you're on my team regarding whether people should listen to the message and not make snap judgments based on the ad hominem fallacy.
If al Jazeera wanted to not reveal who owns them, I'm okay with that. However, we do know who owns them and this is definitely a case of the speaker not practicing what they preach. If the al Thani dynasty wants me to listen to what they have to say about the franchise, let them hold an election first and see whether they let, say, women vote in it. (I'm also not aware of NewsCorp or the New York Times running any countries, regardless of who owns 7% of them).
Although, you could say Qatar does have us beat in the fairness category. Nobody gets to vote.
Bill

They'll certainly tell you let you know that they are a supreme jurisdiction.
Its the substance of the reporting that should be the basis for any criticism not the ownership of the publication.

The Unification Church is not a country. The more proper analogy would be whether I found articles from them about theology persuasive.
I would think that anybody would find it laughable to be lectured on the narrowness of our franchise by a media outlet owned by a royal family that does not permit any elections (at least as far as I can tell). Regardless of where one stands on voter ID, I can't take criticism by absolute monarchs on how we conduct elections seriously.

Do you ask the same question about stories in the Washington Times?
