"Republicans slam Kansas Supreme Court justice over Davis fundraiser

More Kansas news:
<http://www.kansas.com/news/politics-government/election/article2220496.html>
The Kansas Republican Party criticized a Kansas Supreme Court
justice Tuesday, saying a fundraiser hosted for Democrat Paul Davis
at her Topeka home was inappropriate.
The event, a casual backyard BBQ seeking donations of $20 apiece,
raises "numerous ethical questions for both Davis and the Kansas
judicial branch," Republicans said in a release.
Justice Carol Beier, who was appointed to the court in 2003 by
former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, a Democrat, said that she was not
involved in the planning of the Tuesday fundraiser and would not
attend it. The event is hosted by her husband, Richard Green, a teacher.
I wonder if the Kansas Republican Party also believes that Ginny
Thomas's political activities are inappropriate.

<http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2014/09/24/major-companies-increasingly-choose-to-disclose-their-political-spending-study-says/>:
Major corporations are increasingly disclosing their political
spending this election year, even as some business groups discourage
them from doing so, according to a new study set for release Wednesday.
The annual index of corporate political spending by the Center for
Political Accountability
<http://www.politicalaccountability.net/index.php?ht=d/Home/pid/184> shows
that a majority of nearly 200 publicly held companies received
higher ratings for disclosure this year compared with 2013.
"More leading companies are establishing political disclosure as a
mainstream corporate practice," said Bruce Freed, president of the
group, which conducts the annual survey in conjunction with the
Zicklin Center for Business Ethics Research at the University of
Pennsylvania.

the KC Star:
"We think that we could survive if the trigger was pulled Oct. 1,"
said an email from Brian Newby, Johnson County election
commissioner. "That's pushing it."
Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach said he would inform the
district court of the time pressure related to its decision. He
hoped to have a ruling by the end of this week.
But outside experts said that isn't likely. A district court
proceeding could involve witnesses, legal arguments and a lengthy
appeals process.

Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel
<http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/wisconsin-election-officials-ask-judge-to-toss-ballots-suit-b99357336z1-276527981.html>:
State election officials asked a judge Tuesday to throw out a
lawsuit over the design of the Nov. 4 ballots, saying the campaigns
of two Republican lawmakers did not follow proper procedures in
bringing their court challenge.
Even if the case is allowed to proceed, the election officials
argued, the judge can consider changing the ballots in just four
places --- Racine, Walworth, Columbia and Jefferson counties. Those
who brought the suit can't argue over the ballots in the state's 68
other counties because they either don't represent them or the
ballots in those counties don't include the features that are the
subject of their suit, they said.
The filing came a day before Waukesha County Circuit Judge James
Kieffer is to hold a hearing to consider whether to order election
officials to make changes to the ballots six weeks before the election.
