Durango Herald
<http://www.durangoherald.com/article/20151222/NEWS01/151229904/-1/News/Colorado-redistricting-reform-effort-splits-Democrats>:

A proposed ballot question that would change congressional
redistricting in Colorado is being rewritten to address concerns
raised by black and Latino voters.

The bipartisan proposal has caused a bit of a rift within the
Colorado Democratic Party, with black and Latino Democrats at odds
with certain white Democrats over the effort.

“There were, I’m sorry, a bunch of white guys sitting around the
table deciding our politics on redistricting moving forward,” said
state Rep. Angela Williams, D-Denver, chairwoman of the Colorado
    Black Caucus.

“As TV Ad Rates Soar, ‘Super PACs’ Pivot to Core Campaign Work”

NYT:

The shift away from the broadcast television buys that had been the
groups’ main role in past presidential campaigns is among the most
significant developments in outside political spending since the
    Supreme Court’s 2010Citizens United decision
    <http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/22/us/politics/22scotus.html>, which
    paved the way forsuper PACs
    <http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/c/campaign_finance/index.html?inline=nyt-classifier>.
Originally conceived as a vehicle to raise and spend unlimited money
on television, the most expensive part of a White House run, the
groups now are seeking to relieve campaigns of much of the vital
infrastructure that candidates would otherwise have to assemble and
    manage themselves.

FELN
<http://fairelectionsnetwork.com/press/release-federal-judge-dismisses-tennessee-student-voting-rights-case/>:

Late yesterday, U.S. District Judge Aleta
    Traugergranted<http://electionlawblog.org/wp-content/uploads/NSOC-v.-Hargett-Order-Granting-Motion-to-Dismiss.pdf>the
State of Tennessee’s motion to dismiss the federal case challenging
Tennessee’s voter ID law. The Court relied on the Supreme Court’s
    2008 decision in/Crawford v. Marion County Election Board/, arguing
this foreclosed plaintiffs’ claims of discrimination against college
    and university student voters.

The plaintiffs – the Nashville Student Organizing Committee (NSOC)
and seven students from Fisk University, Belmont University and
Tennessee State University – claimed that Tennessee’s voter ID law
discriminated against them on account of their age in violation of
the 26th Amendment and discriminated against public college and
university students by excluding their student ID cards from the
list of accepted voter IDs while permitting faculty and staff ID
    cards from the same institutions.

charges against @99Rise protestors:

A federal district judge in Washington on Tuesday narrowed the scope
of charges against five protesters accused of disrupting U.S.
Supreme Court proceedings earlier this year.

Charging documents say the defendants “did unlawfully make a
harangue or oration or utter loud language in the Supreme Court
Building.” U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper said the terms
“harangue” and “oration” were unconstitutionally vague.

Federal Court Rejects “Stop Hillary” PAC Challenge to FEC Name

You can’t use the name of a candidate in your independent PAC name. This
helps prevent confusion of voters giving to PACs. The Stop Hillary PAC
and Dan Backer challenged this restriction as a violation of the First
Amendment, and today afederal court rejected a preliminary injunction
<http://www.fec.gov/law/litigation/shp_dc_order_mpi.pdf>which would have
stopped the FEC from enforcing this law. The court said that this is
likely not a First Amendment violation.
