Thanks, Ed, for taking up the slack.

As to Frum's piece; I've read it.

Frum's Option 3 is Reform Conservatism, top to bottom; a purging of
Aristotle from the Republican Party; a GOP embrace of the Administrative
State; 'prudently managed' by Plato's Philosopher Kings -- in matters
foreign and domestic; fully hearing de Tocqueville's warning and ignoring
it.

The philosophic theme is what matters; the particular policies can added or
discarded as needed to advance the theme, Machiavelli style.

Whether Frum understands fully the approach he is selling isn't the primary
consideration.

Whether he personally understands it or not, Frum's prescription could not
be more wrong. In the wake of the poisonous philosophy now stealing the
resolve of the GOP, Frum's prescription is ... more poison.

*

If you're on the Left, you secretly depend on being checked by a
Liberty-based counterforce. Frum's prescription is no meaningful check at
all.

It -- Reform Conservatism --deserves to be rejected from, and by, all
quarters of American politics.

All the best,

Steve
