The Ohio legislature last month passed a bill moving the date of the 2016 primary. I am interested in all law changes that affect primary dates, especially when those date changes also automatically change the petition deadline for independent candidates (which this bill does).
The rules of the Ohio legislative process required Governor Kasich to act on this bill no later than Monday, June 8. Today I have tried to find if the Governor signed the bill. I presume he did. The Governor's office has just told me that this information will not be released to the public. I am told I must wait until the state legislature's web page shows what has happened to the bill. According to Professor Josh Putnam, the Ohio legislature's web page is known to be one of the slowest in the nation to update changes in the status of bills.
I think the policy of the Ohio Governor on withholding information is repressive and foolish, and it suggests to me that Governor Kasich would not be a good President. I am sending this e-mail to see if anyone else has an special knowledge of this problem. Richard Winger
