This is a pretty good point, which is why I don’t really pay attention to stories of the “Rudy Giuliani  spent $x and only got some miniscule number of votes” variety, or people who tout them to suggest there’s too much money in politics (if you want to argue there’s too much money in politics, fine, but this is not the metric you’re looking for).

When every candidate has a super PAC, all of the losers will "waste" a lot of money. The result is still a winner who had to rely on a few big donors and potential contenders who never threw their hat in the ring because of fundraising constraints.
