<https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2015/10/23/donald-trump-tells-super-pacs-supporting-his-candidacy-to-return-all-money-to-donors/>:
Donald Trump has asked the nine super PACs that appear to support
his presidential campaign to stop raising money using his name,
likeness and slogans and to return any donations they have already
received. Trump then challenged his Republican and Democratic
opponents to do the same and reject “dark money.”

New Mexico Secretary of State Dianna Duran pleaded guilty to
embezzlement and other charges Friday after abruptly resigning amid
a fraud investigation that alleges she siphoned off thousands of
dollars from her election account and withdrew the money at casinos
around the state.
In a packed Santa Fe District courtroom, Duran pleaded guilty to
felony embezzlement charges and four misdemeanors. Sentencing is
slated for Dec. 14 and Duran can withdraw her guilty pleas if a
judge later imposes prison time.
Her critics were appalled that as the state official in charge of
regulating campaign finance, Duran would be accused of violating the
law.

“Conservative PACs Attack Republicans, and It Pays”

NYT
<http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/24/us/politics/conservative-pacs-turn-attack-on-gop-leaders-into-fund-raising-tool.html?_r=1>:
“This is clearly an organized effort and an attempt by these groups
to raise money for themselves,” said Senator Susan Collins,
Republican of Maine, who added that she was the target of a similar
attack during the 2013 Senate debate over gun safety legislation.
“They hurt our party, they hurt our Congress and they hurt our country.”
Organizers of the petition efforts said such criticism was unfair
and propagated mostly by entrenched politicians who have lost their way.
“That is an absolute self-serving lie fostered by people who are
usually on the receiving end of political attacks of these
organizations,” said Dan Backer, whose Virginia-based consulting
firm, DB Capitol Strategies, is treasurer and legal adviser to
several of the groups, including the Tea Party Leadership Fund, the
Constitutional Rights PAC and theConservative Action Fund
<http://conservativeactionfund.com/>.
Campaign finance documents examined by The New York Times show that
the PACs and other groups running many of these petition drives have
a history of spending most of the money they raise on consulting
firms, as opposed to using it to support political candidates, a
stark contrast to how most PACs function.

The Native American Rights Fund (NARF) and Alaska have jointly
announced an agreement that requires the state to provide
translation of election materials and ballots into Gwich’in and
several Yup’ik dialects. U.S. District Court Judge Sharon Gleason,
who presided over the lawsuit that resulted in the settlement, also
ordered

bilingual training for election workers, expanded collaboration with
Native language experts and tribal councils, meaningful outreach to
voters, and additional help for those with limited English-language
proficiency.

New Mexico’s embattled Secretary of State Dianna Duran, who in late
August was indicted on dozens of criminal charges, has resigned, her
chief of staff confirmed Friday morning.
Ken Ortiz said Duran submitted a letter to Gov. Susana Martinez, who
will be responsible for choosing a replacement for Duran until after
next year’s election.
Duran didn’t tell her staff about her decision on Thursday, Ortiz
said. “She mentioned yesterday that she was considering her
options,” he said. “I guess the decision was made last night.”,,,
Bernalillo County Clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver, a Democrat who ran
against Duran in last year’s election, told/The New Mexican/recently
that she was looking at running for the seat next year if Duran
resigned.
The state Republican Party issued a statement Friday morning saying:
“We respect Dianna Duran’s decision to step down amid these recent
accusations and help restore credibility to the Secretary of State’s
Office. Voters rightfully demand that our elected officials be
accountable to the law, and our party will continue to advocate for
accountability in government.”
