“As Floor Fight Looms, G.O.P. Convention Delegates Become a Hot
Commodity” <http://electionlawblog.org/?p=81448>

NYT:
<http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/02/us/politics/republican-convention-delegates.html?ref=politics>
The chairman of theRepublican Party
<http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/r/republican_party/index.html?inline=nyt-org>in
American Samoa, Utu Abe Malae, began feeling the pressure almost
immediately: phone calls, commitment forms, anything the
presidential campaigns could do, say or send to nail down his
support as a delegate.
Ken Callahan, a district chairman for the North DakotaRepublican
Party
<http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/r/republican_party/index.html?inline=nyt-org>,
is perpetually fielding calls not just from the campaigns, but also
from neighbors and friends who, excited by the process that is
starting to unfold, are interested in becoming delegates themselves.
“I receive, I would say, 10 to 15 calls a day,” he said, “and it
doesn’t stop on weekends, either.”
And Holland Redfield, a Republican delegate and former lawmaker in
the Virgin Islands, had a special call-in guest on his radio program
the other day: Gov.John Kasich
<http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/us/elections/john-kasich-on-the-issues.html?inline=nyt-per>of
Ohio, who promised more than just lip service to the islands if he
became president. After years of being treated like second-class
citizens by mainland politicians, Mr. Redfield said, “we are in the
catbird seat. There’s going to be some hard bargaining.”
Suddenly, they matter: For the first time in 40 years, the delegates
to theRepublican National Convention
<http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/r/republican_national_convention/index.html?inline=nyt-org>could
be more than just a rubber stamp on their party’s nomination process.

KC Star:
Just how nefarious is Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach when it
comes to restricting voters’ rights?
Slimy enough that it appears he helped former Johnson County
election commissioner Brian Newby get a top job in Washington —
after which Newby imposed new limits on voting in Kansas, Alabama
and Georgia.
Some of the calculating behind-the-scenes moves necessary to place
Newby in his position of power are contained inthis excellent
story<http://www.kansascity.com/latest-news/article69320172.html>by
The Associated Press.
Even the dry recitation of facts show just how much political
calculations went into the decisions by Kobach and Newby to help
each other out.

now adds in

from lobbyists who have lobbied for the industry, as well as
contributions to a pro-Clinton SuperPAC from lobbyists.

Truth is Stranger than Fiction Dep’t

A reader responds tothis blog post <http://electionlawblog.org/?p=81422>:
Truth is stranger than an April Fool’s joke.
Amie Hoeber is running to represent Maryland’s Sixth Congressional
District in the House of Representatives:
Amie is a graduate of Stanford University and resides in Potomac,
Maryland with_Mark Epstein, a senior executive of Qualcomm_. They
are members of the B’nai Tzedek synagogue. She has one son, two
stepsons, and four grandchildren.
http://www.amieforcongress.com/biography/
Mr. Epstein also was the custodian of records of her campaign
committee until, apparently, they realized that would be a problem:
Original:

Amended:
http://docquery.fec.gov/cgi-bin/forms/C00582296/1029979/
He’s also the sole contributor (of $300,000) to the Maryland USA
Super PAC:
*Committee: MARYLAND USA*
*Contributor’s Name* *Contributor’s Address*
*Employer/Occupation* *Memo/Description* *Memo* *Text* *Date*
*Amount ($)* *Aggregate ($)* *Limits*
Mark Epstein 9209 Fox Meadow Lane
Potomac, Maryland 20854 Qualcomm, Inc. / Senior Vice President
Contribution

http://docquery.fec.gov/cgi-bin/forms/C00581777/1043856/sa/11AI
Shockingly, the Maryland USA Super PAC has spent over $200,000 on
independent expenditures supporting . . . . Amie Hoeber:
http://docquery.fec.gov/cgi-bin/forms/C00581777/1043856/se
And, naturally:
Langdon Law LLC 8913 Cincinnati-Dayton Rd.

10/27/2015 Legal fees 13266.57

Coordination – it’s not just for presidential races anymore.
