[EL] background on delegations to national conventions

Anybody know of a good study (or studies) on the subject of the backgrounds of who state parties send to their national conventions? I’m looking specifically for information on things like how many of them typically have “insider” backgrounds (former state chairs, former elected officials, donors, central committee members, etc.) vs. how many of them are more often “grassroots” activists – county chairs, longtime volunteers, issue advocates, etc. Realizing, of course, that in some cases the two categories might be largely indistinguishable…
