Subject: Register now to attend a small group discussion on the Political Reform Act revision project
Dear Rick,
Informed by the work of law students under the direction of David A. Carrillo, Executive Director of the California Constitution Center at Berkeley Law, the Fair Political Practices Commission has been working hard over the past couple of months to prepare the text of a proposed revision to the Political Reform Act that will simplify and streamline this important body of law. The FPPC expects to have the text and supporting materials ready for public review and comment starting the week of August 1st.
In conjunction with public comment, Chair Remke and I would like to invite you to join the two of us and Professor Carrillo for an interactive discussion about the project and the work that has resulted to date. This small group meeting will be an opportunity to:
* Learn more about the Political Reform Act;
* Hear about and discuss the work done to prepare the revised Act for public comment<http://cafwd.org/pracomment>;
* Hear about and provide feedback on the process for engaging the public and stakeholders in this work;
* Share experiences about trying to work with the law, helping the FPPC gain a deeper understanding of how the law impacts the lives of those trying to enforce or comply with it, what is working and not working, and what revisions would be most helpful.
Please note that the FPPC will not be taking formal public comment at this meeting. We invite you to submit public comment to the FPPC in writing via the project website at cafwd.org/pracomment<http://cafwd.org/pracomment>.
