As a rule, defeated presidential nominees do not have any formal role in
the party after the election. Some choose to remain active "behind the
scenes" -- Mitt Romney is a recent example. Some remain very prominent in
party affairs, especially if they are still interested in the White House
-- Richard Nixon after 1960. Others vanish. I'm skeptical that, if Trump
loses as badly as now appears likely, many people on the RNC will care
about his opinion. Folks like Ted Cruz or Paul Ryan would probably be more
influential.
