The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), the largest trade association in the nation, is seeking a Political Compliance Attorney, responsible for ensuring legal compliance for the various political advocacy efforts of the Association at the federal, state, and local levels. Compliance efforts will focus on federal, state and local campaign finance, lobbying disclosure, government ethics, and tax laws. The Political Compliance Attorney will manage the creation and distribution of the department's risk management tools and resources with regard to political compliance.
This position requires a self-confident and self-directed individual with strong communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal, presentation skills. S/he must be extraordinarily detail oriented with solid problem-solving skills and capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously. The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual adept at working with differing personalities, maintaining productive relationships, and be highly service-oriented.
Primary Responsibilities:
Analyze state and local requirements for conducting campaigns, such as disclaimers needed for communications and reporting requirements.
Assist state and local associations with registration and formation of political committees, including committee governance and compliance.
Make presentations and help prepare other informational material for campaign services program.
Analyze state and local requests for issue advocacy assistance to determine state legal reporting compliance obligations.
Assist in the formation of ballot initiative committees as needed.
Provide counsel and advice for NAR's Realtors® Political Action Committee (RPAC) and related federal political activity; includes reviewing promotional materials to ensure legal compliance and evaluating RPAC grant requests
Create educational materials and presentations for introductory and ongoing compliance training.
Research, identify, analyze and keep current on laws, regulations and court decisions affecting the real estate industry and the operation of trade associations and for-profit corporations

Qualifications:
JD from an accredited law school
Minimum 7 years of experience practicing law and at least 2-3 years of full-time experience working with political campaign finance laws
Experience collaborating on internal and external teams
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills
Positive attitude
Strong commitment to accuracy and excellence
Minimum travel requirements
