The Foreign Contribution Act forbids contributions of money, or things
having a monetary value. Not information. Telling the would-be
contributor or information to "take it to the FBI" is not an
appropriate response. The FBI is a political organization, and it
generally ignores foreign information of that kind.
No, Donald Trump, Jr. was conducting a criminal investigation. Anyone
has the right (and duty) to do that. It is not, strictly speaking, the
First Amendment that protects that, but the militia duty.
His mistake was in allowing the Russians to snooker him. Standard KGB
operating procedure. He should have had witnesses present or video
recorded it.
All of the Trumps are naifs in the world of foreign relations. That is
why experienced officials operate through intermediaries. There are no
ordinary conversations in that field. Nothing is what it seems.
