[EL] Sachs defense of electoral college

It's simple. In both 1876 and 1888 Democrats won the nationwide popular vote count thanks to enormous electoral fraud and vote suppression through the deep south. But because of the electoral college, it didn't matter.

I don't get Brad's point, either. The 1876 frauds were committed not to change the national popular vote but to change the Florida and Louisiana electoral votes. That doesn't strengthen Sachs's argument.
