for
an online briefing on voting, Black communities, and the next coronavirus
stimulus with Congresswoman Marcia Fudge (D-OH) on Wed., July 8, 2:30-3:30
pm EST.
As congressional leaders work to pass another stimulus package, will they
allocate resources so that state and local election officials can ensure
safe and accessible voting systems for all Americans in the November 2020
election?
Many recent primary elections reduced the number of polling sites and
experienced long lines—especially in counties with large Black communities.
Due to COVID-19’s devastating impact on our nation’s health, economy, and
state and local tax revenues, states need resources to implement both
accessible vote-by-mail systems and safe in-person voting options that
facilitate widespread participation and limit the spread of the
coronavirus.
What does a safe and fair election look like, especially in the midst of a
pandemic? Are the claims that vote-by-mail leads to fraud true or voter
suppression tactics? What do the states that have conducted vote-by-mail
elections for years say about the integrity of their elections? How can
federal policymakers support the states in ensuring that all Americans can
vote in November? What should be included in the next stimulus package for
vote-by-mail and safe in-person voting to be successful? What’s included in
Congresswoman Fudge’s voting bill?
We will discuss the answers to these questions at the Joint Center online
briefing featuring:
- Congresswoman Marcia Fudge (D-OH)
- National Coalition on Black Civic Participation CEO Melanie Campbell
- Colorado Division of Elections Director Judd Choate
The online discussion will be on Wednesday, July 8, 2:30-3:30 pm EST /
11:30am-12:30 pm PST.
We have limited slots, and so please RSVP here
