Dear EL Members,
This is an invitation for APSA members to join the Campaign Finance Research Group, a related group of the American Political Science Association (like the Law and Political Process Study Group). We organize panels at the APSA annual conference that feature current research on campaign finance issues.
Michael Malbin (Campaign Finance Institute and SUNY Albany) and I started the Campaign Finance Research Group almost 20 years ago to support and advance research on various topics related to campaign finance and the role of money in elections. Today, the CFRG is co-chaired by myself, Robin Kolodny (Temple University), and Bruce Larson (Gettysburg College).
The APSA is now requiring all related groups to have at least 35 members, and we invite you to join! Eventually, the APSA plans to collect a small membership fee (probably $1), but for now, membership is free.
If you are an APSA member, please consider joining the Campaign Finance Research Group. To join, go to this link and sign in to your APSA account:

Information about all APSA related groups can be found here:

At this year’s (virtual) APSA meeting, the CFRG is hosting an author meets critics panel featuring founding member Michael Malbin: A Madisonian Perspective on Campaign Finance Reform by Michael J. Malbin. A number of outstanding campaign finance scholars are discussants: Tom Mann, Paul Herrnson, Lynda Powell and Nate Persily. The panel meets on Saturday, September 12 at 2:00 – 3:30 MDT (1:00 – 2:30 PDT, 4:00 – 5:30 EDT). Please consider joining us!
All the best,
