[EL] Challenges to implementing "universal vote by mail" and limiting in person voting by November

There are no costless policies, regardless of anyone’s good-faith motives. I think certain voter “facilitation” does more harm than good, as do you—why not six months of online early voting for 14 year-olds?—we just draw the line differently.

That said, I certainly hope our current crisis permanently eliminates a lot of occupational licensing and other arbitrary/protectionist regulatory burdens—so I have an agenda too!

If you'd prefer to characterize efforts to facilitate and ensure much more robust enfranchisement as "a preexisting agenda," well, then, I'm proud to be Guilty as Charged!

I imagine it’s to ensure that there’s an actual person who’s eligible and wants to vote at the end of the address, trying to minimize harvesting, etc. What a recipe for massive fraud this would be—the real systemic kind, not the extremely isolated incidents of in-person fraud that voter ID remedies—and definitely premature to be implementing this last-resort least-bad option now. I know, I know, don’t let a crisis go to waste to implement a preexisting agenda...

I was wondering exactly the same thing.

I hope everyone and their families are safe.
