[EL] GOP and Greens (was Re: ELB News and Commentary 9/23/20)

This article underscores the vulnerability to manipulation created by a
single-choice, plurality voting system. Keeping it is just asking for
trouble - especially when we have increasingly clear evidence that ranked
choice voting is a win-win solution that speaks to both the frustration of
major parties losing elections due to "spoilers" and minor parties just
wanting a fair chance to compete and offer their ideas (policy ideas that
often are different and have played a huge role over the generations in US
political history).

And of course any suggestion that the Democratic Party has clean hands in
weaponizing third parties in the current rules is false. This cycle, for
example, Democrats and their allies have contextually fought ballot access
for Greens where it serves their purpose and supported ballot access for
Libertarians where it serves their purpose. They'll be gleeful if Lindsay
Graham gets spoiled in his US Senate race. And so on.

That's not surprising. People try to win with the deck that's dealt them.
But we should seize chances to take jokers out of the deck. This New York
