See Michael Morley’s message below.
Michael mentions the “hot topic” panel on election subversion. I’ll be moderating that one, featuring Rep. Jamie Raskin, Guy Charles, Rebecca Green, and Bertrall Ross.

Subject: AALS Section on Election Law Update
Hello!
I hope your semester went well. As the 2022 AALS Annual Meeting approaches, I wanted to give you some updates from the Section on Election Law.
1. Distinguished Scholarship in Election Law Award - It is my honor to announce that the Section on Election Law's Awards Committee has selected Professors Joshua Sellers and Roger Michalski to receive this year's Distinguished Scholarship in Election Law Award for their phenomenal article, "Democracy on a Shoestring," 74 Vand. L. Rev. 1079 (2021). Congratulations to Professors Sellers and Michalski for this remarkable achievement! We will be recognizing them during our main Election Law panel at the annual meeting, which is being held virtually this year. I am grateful for the dedicated service of our Award Committee members, Professors Atiba Ellis, Lisa Manheim, and Derek Muller, who graciously agreed to review the submissions and engage in the difficult task of selecting a winner. They had a very strong field of papers from which to choose; our field is thriving!
2. AALS Annual Meeting Events - As mentioned above, the 2022 AALS Annual Meeting will be held virtually. The Election Law Section is sponsoring or co-sponsoring several exciting events to which I would like to invite you:
(i) Main Election Law Panel - "Redistricting, Gerrymandering, and the Voting Rights Act," Wednesday, January 5, 2022, from 11:00 A.M. to 12:15 P.M. Presenters:

(iii) Co-Sponsored Session - "What Can Research Tell Us About How Law Schools, Lawyers, and Leaders Can Nourish Democracy?," Friday, January 7, 2022, from 11:00 A.M. to 12:15 P.M. This session is being sponsored by the Section on the Empirical Study of Legal Education and the Legal Profession.
(iv) Co-Sponsored Session - "Litigation Conduct and Pushing the Envelope: Impact or Abuse?," Saturday, January 8, 2022, from 3:10 - 4:25 P.M. This session is being sponsored by the Section on Litigation.

Also, I wanted to let you know that AALS has announced a Hot Topic session on "Election Subversion: Assessing the Dangers to American Democracy," on Friday, January 7, 2022, from 12:30 - 1:50 P.M. Although this isn't an Election Law Section event, it looks extremely interesting and important, and I encourage you to watch the discussion!
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out at mmorley at law.fsu.edu. If any of your colleagues may be interested in our programming, please encourage them to attend our events and join our Section!
I hope you have a healthy and safe holiday. I'm looking forward to seeing you all - albeit virtually - at the Annual Meeting events!
Sincerely,
Michael
