Hi, Folks
Many list readers are likely familiar with FairVote, which for 29 years has
been a strong voice for getting to the roots of problems with our
elections. These days, we are particularly well-known for our work on
ranked choice voting and changing winner-take-all elections, although opine
on and research broader democracy and voting rights issues as well.
We're having a real "moment" -- a record 32 cities using ranked choice
voting this month, the winners of both the Virginia governor's race and New
York City mayoral race winning wide-open nomination contests with ranked
choice voting this spring, two states now using RCV for all their federal
elections, and the near-daily exposure of how winner-take-all elections are
incompatible with modern American politics for producing representative
outcomes and creating electoral incentives for legislators to tackle the
problems facing their constituents within our constitutional structures.
With a growing team of more than 20 staffers, we have three particularly
important openings to fll right now
<https://www.fairvote.org/employment_opportunities>. The one I wanted to
lift up for this listserv is the senior policy counsel position..We're
looking for a lawyer who is ready to step in running to work with lawyers
from like-minded organizations on legal matters and play a key role in our
own policy development and legal work. It's a great job for someone who
wants to make a difference on election law matters.
We also now have three paid internship positions that will regularly
include law students and recent law graduates. Applications for paid
interns are closed for the first part of 2022, but we look at mentee
volunteer openings on a rolling basis and there will be paid internship
openings later in 2022. See the internship and mentee application schedule
here. <https://www.fairvote.org/internships>
Finally, I'm proud about the way that FairVote works with allies from
across the spectrum. That fact and an unflagging commitment to our core
principles define our organization. Thanks in advance for sharing this with
people who might want to apply for this role and/or two other new job
