[EL] using false claims to raise funds

I assume there are laws in every state (and federal) related to using false
claims in business transactions, but I also assume it can be complicated.
E.g., claims about a medical cure vs statements on your chances in
sweepstakes vs selling used cars, etc. I don't know how expansive the laws
are on nonprofit solicitation, but the stated use of funds vs the actual
use of funds raised is an issue in some states.
But what about fundraising for candidate's campaigns or for PACs, etc.?
What do successful prosecutions of "fraud" look like or cover?
Particularly, are any analogous to the claim of a "stolen election"? Or is
caveat emptor the only rule?
