Subject: Florida Precinct Data and FEP Update
Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to let you know that I have posted precinct election data from
Florida on the Federal Election Project (FEP) web site. The data from all
of the 2000 federal general elections is matched with registration data
broken down by race, gender, age, and party. You can download the Florida
data as well as precinct election data from 35 other states and the District
of Columbia at the FEP web site:
http://www.american.edu/academic.depts/spa/ccps/elections/index.html
I have also begun matching the election data with racial data for other
states. Precinct data matched with racial data is available for nine states
in the South.
As always, the data is available to everyone at no charge. However, I would
appreciate it if you cite it appropriately should you find it useful in your
work and send me any copies of papers you write using the data.
I am very grateful to everyone who has helped make the site a success,
especially the National Science Foundation which funds this project. Since
we began counting a few months ago, over 1000 files have been downloaded
from the web site. Please continue to pass along information about this
site to others who might find the data useful. I have received lots of
helpful feedback from people I never
A small request: if anyone happens to have data files with voting district
(VTD) racial data from the 2000 Census for their state that they would be
willing to share, I would be very appreciative. The files from the Census
itself are rather cumbersome so this would help save me a lot of work.
Regards,
David
