Subscribers may be interested in a recent order entered by a state court judge in one of the Florida redistricting cases. The state court judge has entered an order directing FL Secretary of State Katherine Harris to show cause why her announced candidacy
for the Congress doesn't create a conflict of interest with her role as a defendant in the congressional redistricting suit. I would be interested to know if anyone is aware of cases where state officials have been challenged as parties during litigatio
n because of their dual role as candidate and officeholder. In the interest of full disclosure, I serve as one of the attorneys for the plaintiffs in the suit. Gerry Hebert
