New voting rights case The Seventh Circuit, in an opinion by Judge Posner, has decided Frank v. Forest County (thanks to How Appealing for the link). The case involves redistricting challenges brought by an Indian tribe in Wisconsin under the Equal Protection Clause and the Voting Rights Act. The districts were quite small in size, and partly for that reason, the Court upheld an 18% deviation in population disparities among districts.

Georgia v. Ashcroft update Howard Bashman is reporting that the Georgia Supreme Court, over a dissent, has rejected the attorney general's attempt to get Baker v. Purdue declared moot in light of the United States Supreme Court opinion in Georgia v. Ashcroft. Once the order is available, I'll post a link.

More stories on the recall lawsuit See: A.P.; the San Diego Union-Tribune; UPDATE: Sacramento Bee; Contra Costa Times; San Jose Mercury News (see also this article on a new poll; UPDATE II The poll itself is available here---link via Dan Weintraub); and the Los Angeles Times. For more on the allegations themselves, see this San Francisco Chronicle article. Commentary: The Sacramento Bee offers this editorial.

Editorial on Florida election controversy See this Palm Beach Post editorial. (Thanks to a reader for passing this along.)
