New voting rights case
The Seventh Circuit, in an opinion by Judge Posner, has decided Frank
v. Forest County (thanks to How Appealing for the link).
The case involves redistricting challenges brought by an Indian tribe in
Wisconsin under the Equal Protection Clause and the Voting Rights Act. The
districts were quite small in size, and partly for that reason, the Court
upheld an 18% deviation in population disparities among districts.
Georgia v. Ashcroft
update Howard Bashman is reporting
that the Georgia Supreme Court, over a dissent, has rejected the attorney
general's attempt to get Baker v. Purdue declared moot in light of
the United States Supreme Court opinion in Georgia v. Ashcroft. Once
the order is available, I'll post a link.
