Actually, there have been many social science projects that have used
individual California ballot images, though I'm not entirely sure how they
were obtained. See, e.g., Jeffrey B. Lewis, "Understanding King's
Ecological Inference Model," Historical Methods, 34 (2001), 170-88, in
which Jeff used individual-level voting records from the 60th A.D. in 1992
to check the reliability of estimates using aggregate data. I believe that
Liz Gerber also used such records in her study of initiatives in
CA. Surely, there will be studies of linkages between votes on three
issues on Oct. 7: recall, the candidates, and Prop. 54, and the Connerly
Initiative.
