Federal campaign law limits to $2,000 the amount an
individual can donate to a candidate for federal
office. Has anyone ever considered the idea that a
candidate for presidential elector is (or is not) a
candidate for federal office? If so, since both major
parties and a few minor parties typically have 538
candidates for presidential elector, a rich individual
could perhaps donate $2,000 to each one of them, for a
combined total of just over $1,000,000.
