April 20, 4 p.m., was the deadline for candidates to
file for the ballot in the United Kingdom's House of
Commons election. That deadline is now passed. The
British election is May 5.

Candidates needed 10 signatures on a petition, and a
filing fee of 500 pounds, which is refunded if the
candidate polls at least 5%.

What a difference between the British ballot access
rules (deadline for qualifying for the ballot is 15
days before the election), and the U.S. ballot
access
rules (new parties in Ohio must turn in signatures
one
year before election day).
