Perhaps one of the most recent and most public examples of this is the
Georgia state senate plan that the court approved (with no DOJ opposition)
in April, 2002, after holding that the earlier proposed plan (which was
later upheld by the Supreme Court) violated Sec. 5. These files will be in
the public files for the Ashcroft case. In essence, the state took the
illustrative districts the DOJ had submitted into evidence to demonstrate
that the retrogression was unnecessary, and put them (with minor
modifications) into their new plan, and then made changes to the surrounding
districts as necessary.

Hi,
I think there were some section 5 VRA posts a little while ago, but I
was wondering if anybody knew of a good place to to look for examples
of the types of settlements-new election plans- that have come out of
section 5 preclearance being denied and communities working out new
plans to satisfy VRA.
Thanks,
