This has been an interesting debate. I conclude from it, as I think probably most of the participants do, that election-day registration is a good thing, assuming it can be accomplished without major administrative costs, either financial or in the reliability of administration of the election.
However, it is also clear that substantial considerations, both theoretical and practical, have been raised on both sides. That suggests to me, to bring the question back to the Connecticut case, that the judge was exactly right in affirming that the issue is one for the state legislatures and not for the judiciary.
