"527 Groups Mostly Breathe Sigh of Relief"

Roll Call offers this report (paid subscription required), which begins: "Now that the Federal Election Commission last week opted not to take its rules on 527 political groups back to the drawing table, most of these groups are expressing satisfaction with the decision. And, some say, they can move ahead with activities without fear of having the FEC rules change on them as the 2006 election approaches."


"Burns Wants Reapportionment Study"

Roll Call offers this report (paid subcription required) on a proposal by Sen. Conrad Burns, tucked in the Senate immigration bill, that would require "the Census Bureau to issue a report to Congress on the impact of illegal immigrants in the reapportionment process. In addition, the Census Bureau would be compelled to establish a plan to exclude those individuals from the population counts used to determine the allocation of House seats."
