Today Senator Joe Lieberman said he will circulate
petitions to be an independent candidate for
re-election.  The 7,500 valid signatures are due
August 9.  The Democratic primary is August 8.  If
Lieberman wins the Democratic primary, he won't turn
in the petition the next day and will run as a
Democrat in November.  If he loses the primary, he
will run as an independent in November.  He will
continue to be a registered Democrat.
