I believe the Texas Republican Party ought to choose a
new nominee in 22nd district, have Tom DeLay withdraw,
and have the new nominee campaign as a declared
write-in candidate.
Write-in candidates have been elected to the US House
in general elections in 1930, 1958, 1980 and 1982.
Write-in candidates have been elected to the US Senate
in the elections of November 1946 and 1954.
I also advocate that the Texas legislature amend the
election law in 2007, to give political parties more
flexibility to replace nominees when the original
nominee withdraws. Or, maybe Texas legislature ought
to give up having its primary for all offices in
March. That's too far away from the November
election. Texas and Illinois (and Ohio in
presidential years) are the only states that hold
their primaries for office other than president as
early as March. No states does so before March.
