On Sunday, California newspapers carried stories about
Congressman Gary G. Miller of the 42nd district.
According to the stories, he saved millions of dollars
in taxes by falsely claiming that he had been forced
to sell a $10,000,000 parcel of land to the city of
Monrovia. But, according to the newspaper reports,
some state law expressly forbade local governments
from acquiring land for this open-space project except
by voluntary sale.
Congressman Miller has no ballot-listed opponent in
November. He has a Democratic opponent, Mark
Hull-Richter, but Hull-Richter was a write-in
candidate in the Democratic primary, and didn't get
enough votes to comply with Cal. election code sec.
8605, so he can't have his name printed on the
November ballot unless the lawsuit against sec. 8605
wins in court.
