Listers,
The
Center for American Progress Action Fund’s blog, ThinkProgress, created
quite a stir by reporting
that the U.S. Chamber’s political ad campaign has been funded by foreign
interests.
The
Chamber responds by noting
that they have internal controls on such spending to ensure that “[n]o
foreign money is used to fund political activities.”
If
there are any political attorneys for labor unions on the list, we’re
interested in how this issue would apply to labor unions. If national unions
such as the AFL-CIO and the SEIU, which have international affiliate groups,
have any sort of financial relationship with their affiliates, wouldn’t
this also apply to them? Can anyone state definitively that this wouldn’t
apply to labor unions (with an explanation)?
The
AFL-CIO seems unconcerned, judging by their post
on the matter.
Thanks,
Jeff Patch
