Maine and North Carolina are posting early voting
statistics, so I've gone ahead and created a webpage for 2010 early voting
statistics. Any tips on early voting numbers from listers, especially the lurking
election administrators, are most welcome. Like two years ago, I will use these
numbers to forecast turnout, which we will use to set interview rates for the
exit polls.
What will inevitably attract the most attention is the
implication of the partisan registration statistics (where available) on the
horse races. These are, of course, very early numbers, and no conclusions may
be drawn yet as to what these numbers mean for the 2010 elections. However,
there are some tantalizing tidbits, with Republicans out to an early lead in
North Carolina and Democrats holding near even with Republicans in Maine.
