Just to put these numbers into context:

In 2008, Maine recorded 744, 456 ballots cast.  In 2006, the state  
reported 550,865.  14,379 ballots constitute 2.6% of the 2006 ballot  
totals.  North Carolina's numbers thus far represent 3/10th of a  
percent of the total 2006 ballots cast.
