How appropriate, given that she effectively needs people to check an
invisible box to win the election...

Hey, that's right, I am!

Hmm, so I can issue decrees, right? How does this sound: Lisa
Murkowski's name can be posted, but ONLY if she promises to rid the
world of mimes. And I'll need that promise in writing...

But aren't you the Governor of Alaska?

reported were required to file with the county election office,
otherwise write-in votes weren't counted. I think the list was in a
binder that you had to specifically ask to see (for those of you who
recall who the Democratic and Republican candidates for governor were
in 2006, you'll understand why I was looking for alternatives).

I don't know for certain, but I would assume/hope that in the case of
aggregate write-in votes reaching a certain threshold of total votes
cast (such as, a number greater than that of the listed candidate
receiving the most votes), there is a mechanism to count write-in
ballots regardless of whether the candidate filed the required form.

The discussion about posting a list of write-in candidates presumes a
state law requirement that such candidates must meet certain
requirements in order to be a write-in candidate. Some states may
allow write-ins on the spot, so it would be impossible to post a list
to inform voters of their choices. The choices would be unlimited.

I have never been inside a polling place in Alaska, but in Maryland
sample ballots are posted, and these naturally include the names of
the non-write-in candidates. Might one not make an equal protection
claim that the posting of sample ballots should entitle write-in
candidates to have their names posted as well?
