Some of the most important and influential people in election reform/voting rightss work aren't necessarily household names.
 
Larry Hansen of the Joyce Foundation was one of those people. He combined both great openess to new ideas and approaches (he served on our board in our early years ihe 1990s when our budget was well under $100,000) and the pragmatic ability to mobilize significant resources -- indeed, millions of dollars -- to support research better understand our electoral process  and support strategies to advance it. He also did significant research himself.
 
Larry died this week at the age of only 69. Services will be later this week. You can read the Joyce Foundation's tribue to him at this link:
