I suspect list members will need more details on what you mean by "how election results are reported".

Do you mean how they are transmitted (by electronic means [and if electronic, encrypted or not]); by physical transport of a memory card; by physical transport of a numerical tally; or some combination. And so on up the line.

I am looking for sources that provide an overview of how election results are reported from polling stations to county boards and then to state boards on election day. Have any comparative studies/tables been done on this?

The reporting requirements will of course vary from state to state, but would it be a plausible assumption that there may be variance within states (and what would account for that variance)?

Please feel free to respond offlist or as you deem appropriate.
