Since it is Saturday, a little levity on this listserv may be 
appropriate.

Over the last several years, I have been trying to impress upon the 
European Commission and Parliament the potentially corrupting influence 
peddling that is done by allowing Parliamentarians to receive free 
travel and gifts from special interests, especially such gifts as free 
travel on corporate jets.

This is what the reluctant EC has so far decided to restrict:

"EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS (Feb. 11, 2011) - The European Commission has 
barred top officials from taking holidays on oligarchs' yachts and 
dictators' jets in a new code of conduct. But MEPs, who want more say 
on the rules, point to shortfalls and loopholes."
